Julie Hanna is a Silicon Valley technologist, entrepreneur, investor and advisor working with purpose-driven companies to unlock humanity’s highest potential and solve our greatest challenges. She is a board member at Mozilla Corporation and Esalen Institute and is an investor and advisor to numerous high growth technology companies, multi-national corporations and public institutions including Lyft, Lending Club, Bonobos and the Norwegian government. She is Executive Chair of the Board of Kiva, peer-peer lending pioneer and the world’s largest crowdfunding marketplace for underserved entrepreneurs.
During her tenure, Kiva has reached 190 countries and delivered $1 Billion loans to 2.5 million small business entrepreneurs. In 2015, President Obama appointed her Presidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship to help develop the next generation of entrepreneurs. Serving in roles that ranged from founding executive to founder and CEO, Hanna has pioneered products and led companies that enabled millions of people to connect, communicate and collaborate globally. Among them, Healtheon (WebMD), onebox.com (Unwired Planet), Portola (acquired by Netscape) and open source innovator, Scalix.
Hanna is an internationally acclaimed visionary and speaker on purpose and profit and the democratizing potential of technology to create a more just and abundant world at mass scale. She has been featured and profiled in major publications, including the BBC, CNBC, New York Times, WIRED and Forbes. In recognition of her vision and global impact on economic and social progress, Hanna was named United States Woman Icon of APEC and is a recipient of the 2016 Global Empowerment Award.
