The Event

As part of Global Goals Week, the Skoll Foundation and the United Nations Foundation are pleased to present We the Future: Accelerating Sustainable Development Solutions on September 21, 2017 at TED Theater in New York.
The Sustainable Development Goals, created in partnership with individuals around the world and adopted by world leaders at the United Nations, present a bold vision for the future: a world without poverty or hunger, in which all people have access to healthcare, education and economic opportunity, and where thriving ecosystems are protected. The 17 goals are integrated and interdependent, spanning economic, social, and environmental imperatives.
Incremental change will not manifest this new world by 2030. Such a shift requires deep, systemic change. As global leaders gather for the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly in September, this is the moment to come together to share models that are transforming the way we approach the goals and equipping local and global leaders across sectors to accelerate achievement of the SDGs.

Together with innovators from around the globe, we will showcase and discuss bold models of systemic change that have been proven and applied on a local, regional, and global scale. A curated audience of social entrepreneurs, corporate pioneers, government innovators, artistic geniuses, and others will explore how we can learn from, strengthen, and scale the approaches that are working to create a world of sustainable peace and prosperity.

Sagmeister took her indication literally and printed the girl’s name and address on dollar bills! The conceptual nature of the design is typical of Sagmeister: his work exists beyond aesthetics, and becomes part of what is being represented. Great masters such as Marina Abramovic, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Louis Bourgeois, Mark Quinn… among several other young creative talents. Initially ignored by record companies, friends involved him in the design of the CD “Mountains of Madness” by the rock group H.P. At 29, he moved to Hong Kong to work in the Leo Burnet office where a poster for an advertising prize caused a stir and protests. Nov 27, 2017 - Explore Ricky Korducki's board "Stefan Sagmeister" on Pinterest. His studio, Sagmeister & Walsh, is a NYC based design firm that creates identities, commercials, websites, apps, films, books and objects for clients, audiences and themselves. Stefan Sagmeister is an Austrian born graphic designer based in New York, recognised for his inventive approaches to typography. Its Lou’s voice.’. Possibly his most interesting (in my opinion, at least) work is his body typography, in which human bodies and faces are used as a canvas for lettering. Sagmeister was born in Bregenz, Austria in 1962. Stefan Sagmeister is a New York based graphic designer, who is most well known for his work on album covers, although he also works on a variety of media. This intriguing representation of information coupled with a prudent vision allows the “better data” – which we might otherwise have neglected thanks to the distractions of everyday media noise – to become immediately evident. This video shows the effect of the slipcase: with it on, the cover is of a happy looking dog with his tongue out, but when it is removed the dog is baring his teeth and looks intimidating. The page edges spell out Made You Look when bent, and when bent the opposite way show dog bones. “It is exactly what one expects from a brilliant ‘cultural agitator’ such as himself. he has worked for the rolling stones, the talking heads, lou reed, the guggenheim museum and levis. Stefan authored “Made You Look”, a design monograph unveiling some of the secrets behind his thinking, imagination and talent. He uses his art to confront many controversial topics and allows his audiences to take part in his art. Things I Have Learned In My Life So Far. Today, Sagmeister lives and works in New York where he develops experiential installations and formats such as “Beauty” dedicated to the concept of “beautiful” or “The Happy Show”, an original compilation of art, design and science brought around the world to lend happiness through the visual experience of his works. In 2000 Sagmeister designed the hardcover version of Pass Thru Fire: the collected lyrics, a collection of Lou Reed’s lyrics. Born in Austria, Stefan Sagmeister is one of the most respected graphic designers of the world. The fifteen books in the collection have hugely contrasting cover styles, some bold and simple and some soft and floral, and whichever is placed at the front becomes part of the slipcase design due to the large holes in it. Many regard him as a mischievous figure due to his shocking and unorthodox works. The interior design differs massively from page to page, and while some look fairly traditional, some are very outlandish and unusual: Things I Have Learned In My Life So Far is another interesting book design by Sagmeister. He now has his own design company with Jessica Walsh, Sagmeister and Walsh. Stefan Sagmeister has long fit this “bad boy” bill. He’s done this in several ways: the most striking of which is this 1999 poster for an American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) event: The event information was carved into Sagmeister’s skin, transforming his body into the poster itself, which was photographed and printed in such high-resolution that the blood drops and cuts were very visible in the final product. After shifting his course in life towards design he studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna andd was accepted at the Pratt Institute in New York on a Fullbright Scholarship after that. Stefan Sagmeister is a world famous artist specializing in graphic design, typography, interactive and environmental art (Stefan Sagmeister 2017). The description of the book on Sagmeister’s website says: ‘The lyrics are divided into chapters according to each album. In Sagmeister’s words, ‘the reason this works is because DeBono’s method forces the brain to start out at new and different point, preventing it from falling into a familiar grove it has formed before.’ This method suggests the design in itself is the point of his work, not its commercial value: Sagmeister’s designs are art forms as well as functional. TRIESTE, Italy – illycaffè is proud to present the new illy Art Collection featuring the work of Stefan Sagmeister, celebrated designer who used the blank canvas of the iconic illy espresso cup to express a deliberately disruptive concept: “Now = Better.” The slogan, that in this historical year might seem out of tune, is in fact quite the contrary: the artist’s acute reflection becomes a strong symbol of renewed hope for the future. Follow us. It is in this period that his work truly emerges, between alternative magazines, underground youth movements, and posters for concerts, all marked by a certain sarcastic humor that would come to define his style. “Money does not make me happy.” “Worrying solves nothing.” These are lessons that Stefan Sagmeister, New York-based graphic designer, typographer, and storyteller, has learned in life so far. Stefan Sagmeister (@stefansagmeister) is a graphic designer, storyteller and typographer who has recently retired from commercial work.He was the founder of Sagmeister Inc. and co-founder of Sagmeister & Walsh.Stefan is not afraid of controversy, his work is known for being unorthodox and thought-provoking. Sagmeister was born in Bregenz, Austria in 1962. Aside from learning them, he's turned them into large scale pieces of art. I’m going to leave my analysis of Sagmeister with this idea, as the immediacy of Sagmeister’s work is its genius, and his ever-evolving style has retained this idea of making an impression now, rather than falling back on ideas which have worked for him in the past. The slipcase is another example of Sagmeister’s use of the human form, and creates an uneasy feeling in the viewer, partly because of the distorted/cut image of a human face, and partly because the eyes have been left whole and stare intensely into the camera. Contact. Exhibitions on Sagmeister's work have been mounted in New York, Philadelphia, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Paris. But if we look at it from a long-term perspective, many aspects that concern humanity have improved: life has lengthened, deaths from wars and natural disasters have decreased, and the majority of people now live in a democratic regime. Of course we use it.’ Seventeen years after the iconic AIGA poster, bodies and faces are still a large feature of his graphic design work: In the same interview, he talks about his creative process, saying he follows the method of Edward DeBono, in which he chooses a random ‘point of departure’ for inspiration instead of thinking about the end product.
