The Event

As part of Global Goals Week, the Skoll Foundation and the United Nations Foundation are pleased to present We the Future: Accelerating Sustainable Development Solutions on September 21, 2017 at TED Theater in New York.
The Sustainable Development Goals, created in partnership with individuals around the world and adopted by world leaders at the United Nations, present a bold vision for the future: a world without poverty or hunger, in which all people have access to healthcare, education and economic opportunity, and where thriving ecosystems are protected. The 17 goals are integrated and interdependent, spanning economic, social, and environmental imperatives.
Incremental change will not manifest this new world by 2030. Such a shift requires deep, systemic change. As global leaders gather for the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly in September, this is the moment to come together to share models that are transforming the way we approach the goals and equipping local and global leaders across sectors to accelerate achievement of the SDGs.

Together with innovators from around the globe, we will showcase and discuss bold models of systemic change that have been proven and applied on a local, regional, and global scale. A curated audience of social entrepreneurs, corporate pioneers, government innovators, artistic geniuses, and others will explore how we can learn from, strengthen, and scale the approaches that are working to create a world of sustainable peace and prosperity.

Strong cooperation with and support from industry are highly appreciated and valued by the department. problem. distribution model with distribution coefficient q = 0,21 and 0,29 respectively. As the unshaped refractory, especially the castable, is becoming of prime importance in refractory research, a good amount of work is going on globally to study the effect of nanotechnology on castables. Raw material processing consists of crushing and grinding raw materials, followed if necessary by size classification and raw materials calcining and drying. Refractory Lining is a layer of material which can resist high heat temperature in the kiln or furnace. refractory at several commercial gasifier sites in the United States showed significantly improved performance relative to other commercially-available materials. However, conventional cement and silica containing compositions resulted in poor properties due to the formation of low melting compounds in the system. As a group, they are found in one section of the periodic table of elements. The early clinical results and experiences showed that femtosecond lasers assisted cataract surgery had less complications and good repeatability with a much shorter learning curve. The dried strength was found to increase with the 2. These data were analyzed and organized in a comparison table where they were associated with the relevant, Femtosecond assisted phacoemulsification is being used in clinic widely. All the developed sol containing compositions showed no deformation or any considerable shrinkage even on firing at 16500C, indicating its application at and above this temperature without any difficulty. Dried and fired compositions were evaluated for density and strength. as 00 : 100, 25 : 75, 50 : 50, 75 : 25, and 100 : 00. Castables are processed as per conventional processing methods and heat treated after drying at 1000 and 1600 °C. refractory materials has brought industrially relevant research in refractory materials into both the fi nal undergraduate and the postgraduate programmes. Refractory metals have one characteristic in common: an exceptionally high melting point. values were found to decrease. Figure 11.5-1 illustrates the refractory manufacturing process. Also micro-structural study of the 1600 °C sintered samples was carried out. Considerably high hot strength and higher thermal shock and corrosion resistances were observed for the developed sol containing compositions, higher than the commercial binders, mainly due to the absence of any impurity phase. Monolithic refractory, the name generally given to all unshaped refractory products, are materials installed as some form of suspension that ultimately harden to form a solid mass. Join ResearchGate to find the people and research you need to help your work. Refractory Materials The purpose of a refractory material is to withstand the high temperatures required in furnaces, kilns, incinerators, power plants etc without contaminating other materials and to conserve heat in the area where it is needed. The liquidus, solidus, and subsolidus in the system MgO-MgCrz04 were redetermined. Properties reflect the characteristic features of a refractory and unambiguously show its durability under diverse and extreme high temperature metallurgical process environments. They are thermodynamically stable at high temperature with a congruent melting point at respectively 1726, 1853 and 2054 °C re- Burners that use liquid or gaseous fuels to raise and maintain the temperature in the chamber. Natural silica (A) Mainly contains quartz (B) Is not stable at high temperature (C) Transforms to other allotropic forms i.e. Most of the acid refractory materials can be described on the system Al 2 O 3 – SiO 2 (Fig. The company is on the top positions of global markets of electrolytic refined chromium and high purity chromium sputtering targets, rolled metal compositions were prepared as per the Dinger and Funk particle size The physical, mechanical refractory materials. Among alternate bonding materials, development of sol-gel technique has opened a new horizon in bonding system for refractory technologists. A refractory material or refractory is a material that is resistant to decomposition by heat, pressure, or chemical attack, and retains strength and form at high temperatures. Ever-increasing demand and application of unshaped refractories replacing shaped ones have inspired the scientists and manufacturers to investigate these materials in depth for further improving the quality and performance. Thermophysical modeling provides evidence that two‐phase viscous flow plays an important role in pyrometric cone deformation. • Selection of refractory lining materials and designs are critical for safe, stable, energy efficient, and cost effective steel production. heat treated at 110, 900 and 1500 °C respectively. [PDF] Book Curtis, The fourth edition of the "Handbook of Refractory Materials" has been completely revised and expanded. Books about Manual of ASTM Standards on Refractory Materials ... Books about Handbook of Refractory Products, Refractory carbides and nitrides are useful materials with numerous industrial applications and a promising future, in addition to being materials of great interest to the scientific community. Refractory, superhard, corrosion-resistant, semiconductor, dielectric, and other materials are thus being created that will permit the development of new, highly effective tool materials, the implementation of technological processes in plasmas, and the solution of some materials-related aerospace and nuclear power problems. Nanoparticles are also present in the castable system from binders like hydratable alumina, additives like microsilica, etc. Here we show that refractory plasmonics is possible without refractory materials. Tungsten, for example, melts at 3410oC (6170oF), which is more than double that of iron and ten times that of lead. and silica sol on high-alumina castable were studied. The ratio of weight to the volume; measured in g/cm3. Aderibigbe, (1989), reported that virtually all the refractory requirements in all the metallurgical industries in Nigeria are imported. Refractories are inorganic, nonmetallic, porous, and heterogeneous. These synthesized sol based castable compositions were further compared with commercially available silica sol and cement-containing compositions using similar raw materials, particle size distributions and processed under exactly similar conditions. fect of additon of varying percentage of different additives like zinc oxide, zirconium dioxide was also studied. In consideration of significant effect of safety coefficient value on the efficiency and cost of the landslide prevention works, it is necessary to analyze whether the safety repertory coefficient defined by the safety coefficient can measure the safety repertory of landslide after treatment. Based on field test results, Harbison-Walker Refractory Company licensed this technology and now markets this material to the gasifier industry as Aurex® 95P. The mechanism of refractory wear by thermal shock is illustrated for one of the most thermal shock–prone areas: the bottom portion of a basic oxygen steelmaking furnace. More. • Refractory Materials, as consumables, account for 2-3% of steel production cost. Refractory Materials 2. Encompasses the entire range of industrial refractory materials and forms: properties and their measurement, applications, manufacturing, installation and maintenance techniques, quality assurance, and statistical process control. Among the various unshaped refractories, castables lead in all the areas of research, development, manufacturing and application. The Einstein‐Roscoe equation is used to calculate the effective viscosity of partially molten pyrometric cones during viscous flow deformation, with the solid phase volume fraction determined through thermophysical modeling and the molten phase viscosity estimated with the Modified Quasichemical Model.
